The Terai region, including Haldwani, serves as the economic gateway to Kumaon. Unfortunately, its climate also makes it highly susceptible to seasonal mosquito-borne illnessesβ€”primarily Dengue and Malariaβ€”during and immediately following the monsoon season.

Recognizing the Warning Signs

Dengue fever often begins with a sudden, high fever. Unlike common viral fevers, Dengue is characterized by:

  • Severe headache and pain behind the eyes
  • Intense muscle and joint pain ("breakbone fever")
  • Nausea, vomiting, and a notable skin rash appearing 2-5 days after the fever starts

Critical Warning Signs

If you or a family member experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, or bleeding gums/nose, seek emergency medical attention IMMEDIATELY. This may indicate Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

The 250-Bed Safety Net

During peak Dengue season, smaller clinics and nursing homes often reach capacity quickly, leading to dangerous delays in treatment and blood transfusions.

As a 250-bed super speciality hospital, PSP Memorial is uniquely equipped to handle seasonal surges. Our infrastructure ensures that no critical patient is turned away due to a lack of beds. More importantly, our 24/7 in-house Pathology Lab and Blood Bank mean that critical platelet transfusions can occur without external delays.

Home Management vs. Hospitalization

Not all Dengue cases require hospitalization. Mild cases can be managed at home focusing on rest and hydration (oral rehydration salts, coconut water). However, daily monitoring of CBC (Complete Blood Count) is essential. Our Outpatient Department (OPD) offers rapid screening packages to monitor your platelet count safely while you recover at home.
